The Cub Pack had an exciting adventure weekend with a sleepover at 1st/3rd Scouts HQ in Ruislip!
Bentley Priory Museum
After making their own packed lunches (how much ham can you fit in one sandwich?), the Cubs set off in the minibus to Bentley Priory Museum in Stanmore.

They looked around all the exhibits:

After they had finished thier lunches, they looked around more of the museum, including everyone having a go being a pilot!

The Cubs could see what the Operations Room looked like, where information was received about enemy raids - it gave an overview of the whole country.

And they used the binoculars to look out for any enemy aircraft!

Local history hike
We all went back to 1st/3rd Ruislip HQ, and then we set off on a hike to explore our local area.
Lots of the buildings on the High street date back more than 100 years, so we used old photos to spot what was the same and what had changed.

The oldest building on the High Street is St Martins Church - and our group was originally called 2nd Ruislip (St Martin’s) Scouts! There has probably been a church on the site since the 11th century, and the current building dates from the mid 13th century.
We had a look at the heraldry displayed in the bell ringing room, looked at the medieval wall paintings, the wooden chests and where the bread was held for poor people. When we were nearly finished, Fr Robert came in and had a chat with the Cubs too!
We also looked at the outside of the church before heading back to 1st/3rd HQ to play some map based games and learn to make and fly paper aeroplanes before dinner.

Film and sleepover
We set up our tents in the main hall, then watched a film before going to sleep…

Then in the morning our grownups came to pick us up!
