IT WAS COLD!
The weather for the 20th Chilly Goat Challenge was perfect! Cold and dry!
Camping
2nd/9th Ruislip Scouts arrived at Phasels Wood with the other troops on the Friday night, and pitched their tents in the dark

The nights were very cold - the air temperature was about minus 7 degrees Celsius. In the mornings the Scouts had icicles on the inside of their tents where the moisture from their breath had condensed on the tent material and frozen as they slept!
If you were out of the tent during the night though, the stars were clear and the ice crystals on the tents were sparkling in the moonlight! You can see Canis Major and Orion in this photo at 02:00; elsewhere you could see Jupiter and the Seven Sisters.

The mornings weren’t much warmer, but the sunrise was beautiful.

Activities
Photos to come, hopefully! The Scouts were challenged over a range of activities, gaining points for the Troop over the weekend.
The did:
- Air rifle shooting
- Archery
- Rolling rock climbing
- “Up in the air” challenge to get tennis balls over a course of gutters and pipes
- A first aid challenge to get “Barry” some emergency aid before having him “winched off in the helicopter”
- Water filtration
- Wide game at night
The Chilly Goat Challenge
The Chilly Goat Challenge on the Sunday involved creating a platform that would support Barry so that he could be kept off the ground overnight. Barry weighs 80 kg… They had to use one tree, and they had 10 poles, 11 pieces of sisal and 45 minutes.
The teams were only given points if their structure could keep Barry off the ground - if they did, then points were awarded for knots and teamwork.
2nd/9th worked together really well, and were successful!

Results
We did really well, and came a close third from nine teams!
